District 6 Incumbent Liz Ames Earns Key Endorsements For Focus on Safety, Fiscal Responsibility
(Sept. 28, 2022) – Liz Ames’ commitment to public safety and support for transparency and fiscal responsibility on the BART Board of Directors has earned her re-election campaign the endorsement of the BART Police Officers Association, State Sen. Steve Glazer, (BPOA), the Mercury News and the East Bay Times.
The District 6 incumbent has worked hard to ensure BART police are given the full resources they need to protect riders and make stations more secure.
“Over the last four years, Director Liz Ames has been steadfast in her commitment to the fiscal responsibility and rider safety. Director Ames does what is right, not what is easy. The members of the BART Police Officers’ Association look forward to another four years of great leadership from Liz Ames,” said Keith Garcia, president of the BPOA. “The BPOA proudly endorses Liz Ames for District 6.”
Ames pushed for BART to invest in new fare gate technology at BART stations to make it more difficult for fare cheaters, who rob the system of millions of dollars each year.
Ames is a civil engineer who has experience in budgeting, planning, design and construction. She has volunteered to serve on a host of civic boards over the past 30 years, including chairperson of Save Our Hills, and as a Union City planning commissioner.
With BART facing financial instability and long-term ridership loss, Ames has fought for a more transparent budgeting process and greater financial detail from BART planners.
“I support Liz Ames for re-election to the BART board because she conducts herself with honest and integrity and has fought for greater rider safety, transparency and budget accountability,” said state Sen. Glazer (D-7th).
Her focus on doing what is right for each community earned her the endorsement of the Mercury News and East Bay Times. “BART needs fiscally savvy leaders like Liz Ames. Directors who understand the district’s finances and are prepared to address the fiscal challenges ahead,” the newspapers wrote. “In the District 6 race, Ames is the only candidate who meets those criteria.”
If re-elected, Ames would continue to work with local citizens and civic leaders on appropriate ways to provide long-term funding for BART and the communities it serves.
District 6 includes the towns of Fremont, Newark, South Hayward, Union City, Castro Valley and Sunol.
