Occupation: Senior Project Manager/Civil Engineer
Today is an Opportunity to Live-Work-Play in town!
My education, qualifications and goals are:
I have been a local government civil engineer and transit rider for 25 years. I understand how to implement community projects. I will ensure BART’s resources are invested to support the rider experience.
Short-term, we will catch-up on repairs and spend public tax money wisely on BART car and station improvements. If elected, I will focus on trains running on schedule, ensure stations are safe and clean, and add trains to reduce overcrowding. Long-term, I will work to create welcoming transit villages with housing and job centers at each station to reduce work commute times. Shorter commutes to work are a challenge in the Bay Area. BART stations can generate revenues with job centers redistributed on BART property. We can generate revenues to offset services costs. I will ensure BART’s resources are invested in supporting the rider experience including improved transit connections, safe travel on clean trains and at clean stations. See ames4change.com to learn about creating places where we live-work-play to improve our quality of life. I ask for your vote and together we can make safe, clean transit with a goal to reduce your travel time while keeping your fares reasonable.
For over 20 years, I have launched community initiatives to create places to live, work, play in town. Preserving the beauty and cultural diversity of unique places improves mental health and quality of life. My focus as chairperson of Save Our Hills since 2008 is to create civic space and places that interconnect our urban to rural settings for a sustainable economic future. By saving and interconnecting agricultural land, open space and trails most notably on the urban/rural interface boundaries where it’s most available – we can create beautiful points of interest and public civic places such as transit villages near BART. Infill development such as building on parking lots and creating trails/bus/shuttle connections can provide year- round recreation and commute opportunities. These areas can be the backbone of economic development rather than the afterthought. Businesses and residents in the region can experience parks and trail heads within a ¼ to ½ mile radius from transit centers for all employees and residents to experience. Let’s create a unified vision for open space, trails, transit so we can live>>work>>play in town.
Keeping our tax dollars in town improves revenues and investment in our town and BART stations. We need to change what has happened over the past decade, more cars on the road, costly transit options, unaffordable and sprawling development that all looks alike. The average daily commute is over 20 miles, our taxes and cost of living are rising and more vehicles are on the road – creating a lower quality of life.
I ask for your Vote as BART DIRECTOR District 6 to make our transit safe, clean, affordable and with new transit villages tied to year- round recreation and an economic driver to regain our community back so we can live>>work>>play in town.
Respectfully,
Elizabeth Ames
